Contemporary Dance and Live Music

Recipient of the Thuringia Theatre Prize 2026 at the Avant Art Festival 2026

Dancers and musicians engage in an intense interaction on stage, set to a specially arranged composition. What unites them is a moving dialogue. Spaces for association open up between the art forms, fueled by motifs of proximity and distance.

A game of contrasts—closeness and distance form two poles between which human existence moves. We yearn for closeness, for connection, for a deep sense of togetherness—yet at the same time, we need distance, the space for reflection and for becoming who we are. In few art forms—if any—can this interplay be captured and expressed through movement quite like in dance: the drawing near and the pulling away, the striving for contact and the deliberate stepping back.

The choreography allows moments of intimacy and longing to emerge. Dance makes visible what is palpable in every human relationship—the inevitable interplay of closeness and distance.
Music and dance will meet on stage, engage in dialogue, and extend this interplay beyond the boundaries of their respective genres.
