HEDERA is an experimental project that blends dance and film-making with the aim of using dance as a tool for investigating, rediscovering, and sharing the cultural and landscape heritage of Basilicata. The project follows dancers of Balletto Lucano—trained in Basilicata and now active professionals at an international level—as they immerse themselves in significant locations across the region and in an introspective journey. Their improvisational interpretations of these experiences are captured in dance films by director Angelo Chiacchio and further developed in a live performance by choreographer Loredana Calabrese.

The project enhances the performers’ personal and professional growth as they use their artistic maturity to rediscover and recount their land, their history, and ultimately themselves. Founded in 2006 by Lucanian choreographer Loredana Calabrese, Balletto Lucano creates works deeply rooted in the landscapes and cultural traditions of Basilicata while speaking a universal artistic language.
