“Scars of Innocence” addresses the issue of female genital mutilation. Using elements of modern and African dance, the dancers impressively paint a moving picture of the lives of young African girls who lose their carefree childhood at an early age.
“The choreography shows five male dancers transformed into androgynous beings with billowing skirts and glistening pectorals, displays of imposing behavior and signs of weakness. They touch with eruptive energy and vulnerability in equal measure. The knowledge of the acts of mutilation becomes a pain shared by both sexes: waves of trembling run through five dancers like silent sobs.” (taz,14.09. 2009)
